OUR TRUST MISSION

Protecting students. Trust at the center.

BusPatrol’s mission is simple: make the journey to and from school safer for every child. For more than a decade, we’ve partnered with school districts, transportation providers, municipalities, and law enforcement agencies to help make that journey safer. That work begins with trust, built through clear public oversight and local accountability.
HOW BUSPATROL PROGRAMS WORK

Every program has a rulebook

BusPatrol programs do not begin with a camera. They begin with state legislation and a local decision to use technology for a specific student safety purpose. State law and local agreements set the boundaries — what can be recorded, who is authorized to review it, who information can be shared with, how long it can be kept, and when it must be deleted.

OUR SAFETY CREDENTIALS

Security backed by strong standards

Our commitment to security and privacy is supported by independent reviews, trusted infrastructure, and established security practices designed to protect our partners and the communities we serve.

SOC 2 Type II

Independently examined controls

We are SOC 2 Type II compliant. Our controls for security, availability, and confidentiality have been independently examined, providing assurance that key safeguards are designed and operating effectively.

PCI DSS

Safeguards for payment information

BusPatrol follows PCI DSS requirements for applicable citation payment flows to help protect payment information.

Secure infrastructure

Built on trusted cloud infrastructure

BusPatrol production environments are hosted on AWS infrastructure that meets widely recognized security standards, including ISO 27001.

FirstNet Authorization

Secure public-safety connectivity

BusPatrol is authorized to operate on FirstNet, a secure public-safety network that helps prioritize the transmission of violation evidence.

Third-party security testing

Regularly tested for vulnerabilities

Independent security experts test our applications to help identify potential risks before they become problems.

OUR SAFETY CREDENTIALS

Privacy and compliance by design

Our programs exist because legislatures have thoughtfully debated and authorized them, and we operate within the protections, oversight, and accountability those laws require.

BusPatrol’s purpose-built technology activates only when a school bus is stopped with its warning lights and stop-arm engaged, documenting a potential illegal passing for a defined review process by law enforcement. Throughout that process, data remains owned and controlled by the government partner, access is limited to authorized, role-based users, and information is collected, protected, retained, and purged only as permitted by law and local agreements.

Encryption

Information is protected using TLS 1.2+ encryption in transit and AES-256 encryption at rest.

Controlled access

Role-based access, least-privilege permissions, multi-factor authentication and audit logging help ensure information is available only to authorized users.

24/7 cybersecurity operations

Our technology environment is supported by continuous security oversight and documented procedures for detecting, evaluating, and responding to potential security incidents.

Ongoing testing

Regular vulnerability scanning, remediation processes, and annual penetration testing help identify and address potential risks.

Secure onboard storage

Video is stored on secure, tamper-resistant onboard DVRs. For stop-arm safety programs, only evidence associated with a potential violation is transmitted to the cloud for review.

Responsible data governance

Data ownership, retention, deletion and authorized access are governed by partner agreements, applicable laws and defined controls.

OUR SAFETY COMMITMENT

Trust starts with
how we work

Every BusPatrol program is founded on legislation and shaped by the voices of the local communities they serve.

Community-first

Every BusPatrol program is shaped by regulation, local laws, local priorities, and the voices of the communities they serve.

Purpose-built

Our stop-arm safety technology is designed for one defined use: documenting potential illegal school bus passings.

Human accountability

Potential violations are flagged for human review. Authorized officials determine whether an action meets their community’s legal standard.

Transparent stewardship

Data ownership, access, retention, and deletion are governed by district agreements, applicable law, and defined controls.

“The communities we serve trust us with an important responsibility: helping protect children while safeguarding the information our technology handles. We earn that trust by being clear about what our technology does, deliberate about how data is used and protected, and accountable for meeting the standards we set for ourselves.”

OUR SAFETY IMPACT

Safer buses.
Safer kids.

Our goal is simple: fewer drivers illegally passing stopped school buses and fewer students put at risk. Across the country, we’re seeing progress, from drivers changing their behavior to a continued decline in illegal school bus passings nationwide.

National estimates have fallen from 43.5 million in 2024 to 38.4 million in 2026. Automated enforcement is one part of the broader effort helping communities drive safer behavior.

For most drivers who receive a first violation through a BusPatrol program, it’s also their last. Education and accountability are helping change behavior where it matters most.

A SHARED RESPONSIBILITY

Safer communities are built through trust

Protecting students comes with a broader responsibility to the communities we serve. It means being thoughtful about how technology is used, responsible with the information entrusted to us, and transparent and accountable in how we operate.

That commitment is fundamental to who we are and how we pursue our mission
of creating safer roads for every student.
