February is Black History Month in the United States of America and in Canada.
Historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans can be credited for creating this space for this commemoration. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history.
Every year, people participate in Black History Month events and festivities that honor the legacy of Black Americans and Canadians and their communities.
Over the course of February, we are using our platforms to amplify Black voices and stories. Given our mission to safeguard students, our focus is on sharing educational resources for young minds. While we will highlight some of our favorite resources on our social media channels, a fuller list is available here. We’ve done our best to include a variety of good resources but recognize this is not an exhaustive list.
Do you have a resource you’d like to share?
